How can I clean latex walls without removing too much of the paint?
Q. I recently moved into a new place, and the owner used LATEX paint on every wall in the apartment. It is bugging me. It's impossible to wipe anything down without removing the paint, and it eventually looks discolored. How am I supposed to clean the bath and kitchen walls, if the pain continues to rub off? That would be flat latex paint.

A. latex is the common paint used in rental units. the only thing is that the areas that would come in contact with water, such as the kitchen, bath and laundry rooms should have been painted with semi-gloss, not flat as you seem to be describing. maybe the land lord was not aware of his painters error and you should address it with him/her.

How can you paint walls with latex if the previous paint was oil-based?
Q. The interior of our house was painted 20 years ago using Sherwin-Williams oil-based paint. When we repaint, should we use latex, and if so, how well will that go on over the oil-based paint?

A. Primer the wall! Latex (water based) can not bond to Oil base. I have heard some say if you sand the walls it will bond. Maybe thats why some people will say it worked for them because there walls were sanded good. Its not a risk worth taking especially since primering a wall helps the overal finish anyways. Also think that it takes less time to put a coat of primer on the wall (typically you need 2 coats anyways) then too sand down pealing paint all over the walls. I don't understand why half these guys are saying you "SHOULD" be fine. What kind of answer is that. Primer the wall first, and if you have the money get the primer tinted to the finish coat's color. I say if you have the money because its usually free to tint the color… [cont.]

Any ideas on how to remove liquid latex from a makeup brush?
Q. I forgot to clean the brush immediately and now I cant get the latex of! It's a sintethique brush but very expensive.

A. Take each brush and run it under warm water, then apply a small amount of shampoo - you might want to use baby shampoo as this is extra sensitive, and gently rub until you have a soft lather. After a few minutes, run each brush under the cold tap and rub the bristles to get rid of the soap. When the water runs clear and isn't coloured from makeup, then you know the brushes are clean.
